How UCB modernized its statistical computing environment
UCB's multi-year DELTA program to modernize its regulated statistical computing environment found that no single person fully understood their end-to-end workflow from data ingestion to submission, and that process re-engineering and QA alignment mattered more than the technology choice itself. UCB built three environments mirroring the trial lifecycle -- development, a risk-free acceptance/training environment, and locked-down production -- testing real-world study scenarios rather than checkbox validation, with an interactive intranet user manual and local champions supporting early study teams. In April 2026 UCB launched a fully validated, GxP-compliant SCE built on Domino. Statistical Solutions Lead Tim Williams compared the shift to moving into a new house: it required rebuilding core business processes, not just installing new technology into legacy workflows.
Domino Data Lab is an enterprise MLOps platform built for regulated industries — the sanctioned sandbox where biopharma teams run reproducible experiments under GxP/21 CFR Part 11 guardrails.
This sits in the Design & Stress-Test stage of the AI use-case lifecycle: Named examples from the tools pharma teams use to scope, prototype and benchmark an AI use case before committing to build it — data-catalog, sandbox and evaluation platforms.
