Bayer Data Science: Scaling AI for Agriculture

BayerDesign & Stress-TestDomino Data Lab

Bayer's roughly 500-person data science community works on maximizing crop yields and optimizing supply chains, constrained by getting only one growing season per hemisphere per year to test new seed variants, and by difficulty coordinating global model development on their internal 'science@scale' platform. Bayer adopted Domino's Enterprise AI Platform to let scientists use preferred tools (R Studio, Python, Flask, ShinyServer) while automating infrastructure provisioning. Today over 75% of the 500-person data science community actively uses Domino, and Bayer reports a significant increase in seed production yield through ML modeling of crop genetics and environmental factors, plus reduced costs and faster model development/deployment. Note: despite being filed under Domino's health-and-life-sciences customer list, this page's actual content is about Bayer's agricultural/crop-science division, not a pharma use case.

Domino Data Lab is an enterprise MLOps platform built for regulated industries — the sanctioned sandbox where biopharma teams run reproducible experiments under GxP/21 CFR Part 11 guardrails.

This sits in the Design & Stress-Test stage of the AI use-case lifecycle: Named examples from the tools pharma teams use to scope, prototype and benchmark an AI use case before committing to build it — data-catalog, sandbox and evaluation platforms.
