Transforming defense decision-making with Advana

The U.S. Department of Defense lacked a centralized platform for standardizing data across the enterprise, and leaders initially believed department-wide financial audits were impossible given fragmented systems. DoD built the Universe of Transactions to standardize financial-data traceability, rebranding it Advana in 2018 and expanding beyond finance into personnel, logistics, and supply chain; when the Chief Digital and AI Office formed in 2021, Collibra's Data Catalog and Data Marketplace were integrated for centralized discovery, governance, and self-service access. Advana now has 80,000 registered users, 10 community spaces, serves 55+ DoD organizations across 5 accredited networks and 3,000 NIPR sources, and enabled TRANSCOM to rapidly assess shipping impacts during the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse using its Vessel Tracking tool; Collibra's Toan Do said "the Advana catalog has truly enabled the DoD to turn data into a strategic asset."

Collibra is a data-governance and catalog platform used to keep data trustworthy, traceable and compliant enough to support an AI initiative.

This sits in the Design & Stress-Test stage of the AI use-case lifecycle: Named examples from the tools pharma teams use to scope, prototype and benchmark an AI use case before committing to build it — data-catalog, sandbox and evaluation platforms.
