ASN Bank builds better compliance with Collibra

ASN Bank, the Netherlands' fourth-largest bank with over three million customers, faced escalating compliance pressure under GDPR and BCBS 239, with disparate teams managing data via spreadsheets and no clear way to demonstrate data ownership or lineage. It formed a 200-person Expertise Center Data and chose Collibra for its configurability, launching its first use case — data issue management — within two months via an iterative, agile approach built on a four-layer architecture (business glossary, enterprise data layer, dataflow layer, technical layer) integrated with Teradata, PowerDesigner, AWS, Snowflake, and ServiceNow. Per Kasper Kisjes, Collibra "enabled ASN Bank to bridge its data silos, uniting data risk, data management and data compliance teams," replacing slow spreadsheet-based audits with rapid lineage tracing and freeing time for higher-value work like risk calculation and marketing.

Collibra is a data-governance and catalog platform used to keep data trustworthy, traceable and compliant enough to support an AI initiative.
