Collibra helps Envision Healthcare and its patients tackle insurance claim issues
U.S. insurance claim denials are rising (KFF found HealthCare.gov issuers denied 17% of in-network claims in 2021), and Envision Healthcare — serving 30 million patients a year across 1,000+ sites — found data errors like missing middle initials or wrong birth dates across 50 different data entry and collection systems were driving mismatches and denials. It deployed Collibra's Data Quality & Observability, Data Catalog, Data Governance, and Data Lineage on AWS, establishing 51 quality metrics to track treatment outcomes and clinical performance, emphasizing stakeholder engagement over top-down IT deployment. Results include automating manual monthly billing audits, cutting clinician credential verification from six weeks to one day, roughly 900 people using Collibra within seven months, and 60 appointed data stewards; Roy Schmidt said "Collibra is critical to helping Envision Healthcare improve operations."
Collibra is a data-governance and catalog platform used to keep data trustworthy, traceable and compliant enough to support an AI initiative.
This sits in the Design & Stress-Test stage of the AI use-case lifecycle: Named examples from the tools pharma teams use to scope, prototype and benchmark an AI use case before committing to build it — data-catalog, sandbox and evaluation platforms.
