Case study: Early-onset cancer trends in Japan and the US

Flatiron Health addressed the limited real-world data infrastructure in Japan by comparing EHR-derived early-onset cancer prevalence between Japan and the US. The Japan cohort included 811 patients (390 colorectal, 421 gastric) compared against larger US cohorts. Early-onset colorectal cancer prevalence was 27% in Japan versus 15% in the US, and early-onset gastric cancer was 14% in Japan versus 10% in the US. These findings were preliminary, derived from a single Japanese site (National Cancer Center Hospital East), though additional sites have since been added to improve future analyses of disease natural history and treatment outcomes.
