Real-world clinical outcomes and comparative effectiveness of a drug in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer in the U.S.

A GSK team led by Dr. Tirza Boyle used Flatiron real-world data to compare overall survival between niraparib maintenance therapy and active surveillance in BRCA wild-type recurrent ovarian cancer patients. Among 1,172 eligible patients, median overall survival was 24.1 months with niraparib versus 18.4 months with active surveillance, with a similar benefit seen in a NOVA-trial-like subgroup. The study found a statistically significant survival advantage for niraparib and demonstrated that real-world evidence can complement clinical trials with more diverse patient populations.
