From complexity to clarity: Dashboard streamlines Medicaid SUD program
Virginia's Department of Medical Assistance Services had fragmented data processes for managing its Medicaid Addiction and Recovery Treatment Services (ARTS) program and needed a more robust way to analyze and report performance metrics to CMS after Medicaid expansion. Optum's Enterprise Data Warehouse team built the ARTS Datamart and Dashboard, launched in April 2025, with a simplified data model, interactive charts/filtering, and automated quarterly/annual updates aligned to CMS schedules; design and implementation took 3-6 months. The dashboard let staff access, explore and act on key metrics more effectively and helped the agency meet CMS reporting requirements with improved accuracy and speed; the approach has since been replicated for other organizations, including Virginia Commonwealth University.
Optum is UnitedHealth Group's data and analytics arm, with one of the largest raw claims and EHR-derived real-world-data footprints of any vendor in this directory.
