Supporting the unique needs of firefighters
Firefighters face daily stress, cumulative trauma, depression, anxiety and relationship strain, but stigma keeps many from seeking help; 95% of Minnesota's roughly 20,000 firefighters are volunteers without centralized access to emotional-health services. Optum partnered with MnFIRE to build a specialized emotional-wellbeing program with a curated network of trauma-aware, fire-service-trained clinicians, multiple access options (phone, virtual, in-person), a dedicated provider specialist to vet clinicians, and support extended to firefighters' families. The program has logged over 1,000 provider visits, drawn positive feedback from firefighters and family members, and expanded usage beyond firefighters themselves.
