Mobile clinic brings care to underserved communities in Nevada
Southwest Medical identified that patients without vehicles or bus fare in rural and urban Nevada areas couldn't reach clinics for preventive and primary care. Under CEO Dr. Robert McBeath, it partnered with Health Plan of Nevada and Sierra Health and Life to deploy "a 45-foot medical center on wheels," wheelchair-accessible with "2 exam rooms, a phlebotomy lab, ultrasound and mammography," staffed by an advanced practice clinician, LPN and medical assistant, rotating to homeless shelters, churches and schools without requiring insurance. In 2017 alone it delivered "more than 1,000 primary care visits," "nearly 800 women received mammograms," and provided "712 immunizations" to children, with "thousands of patients" served over six years of operation.
