Banner Health battles physician burnout with Claude-powered AI platform
Banner Health, a nonprofit system with 55,000+ employees across six states, faced severe physician burnout from administrative overload; physicians spent 2-3 hours nightly on chart prep, and 20% of hematology oncology physician documentation time occurred between 6 PM and 6 AM. Banner built BannerWise, an enterprise AI platform powered by Claude Sonnet 4.5 deployed within its AWS infrastructure in under 30 days, used for document analysis/summarization (32% of usage), content creation (20%), and coding support (16%). 85% of users report significant time savings and accuracy improvements, the platform has a Net Promoter Score of +64, productivity ratings of 8.9/10, and the oncology pilot has processed over 1,400 clinical notes since June 2025. Banner's stated goal is a 50% reduction of administrative tasks for clinicians by end of 2029.
