Quantifying the impact of SDOH
Because quantifying exactly how social determinants of health (SDOH) affect Type 2 diabetes treatment remained an underexplored area, Symphony Health partnered with HealthWise Data to study how SDOH factors combined with medical/pharmacy claims features affect treatment persistence. They linked Symphony Health's Integrated Dataverse (IDV®) with HealthWise360 Universe data via Synoma® tokenization and applied XGBoost and logistic regression models to identify features predicting whether patients stayed on treatment three months after starting. The analysis found that factors like food insecurity, healthy lifestyle access, and use of preventive services directly affected whether patients stayed on treatment, and that patients with higher disease burden and comorbidities had distinct profiles — showing which factors can be addressed through intervention and which cannot.
