Unlearn to Support SOLA Biosciences' Clinical Study Using AI-Generated Digital Twins
Early-phase ALS trials struggle to show meaningful treatment effects, especially in single-arm designs without concurrent controls, given disease heterogeneity and natural functional decline. Unlearn announced a partnership with SOLA Biosciences to support its Phase 1/2 trial of SOL-257, an investigational ALS gene therapy, providing AI-generated digital twins from an ALS-specific Digital Twin Generator trained on historical patient-level data, used as external comparators to help interpret early outcomes. Unlearn CEO Steve Herne said: 'Early-phase single-arm studies in ALS are often where promising therapies lose clarity. That's exactly the problem digital twins are designed to solve.' SOLA CEO Keizo Koya said the approach 'strengthens the scientific rigor of our study design and supports disciplined, data-driven development decisions.' No numeric outcomes are given since this is a forward-looking partnership announcement.
Unlearn.AI builds AI-generated 'digital twins' of clinical-trial patients, formally qualified by the EMA and reviewed positively by the FDA for reducing control-arm size in real trials.
This sits in the Ship stage of the AI use-case lifecycle: Named examples from the vendors pharma teams use to get an AI system live inside a real, regulated production workflow — validation, CRM, safety and clinical systems of record.
