Combating COVID-19 with data and ML

During COVID-19, Melbourne's Austin Health needed to redesign patient care while keeping staff, non-COVID patients, and potentially infected people physically separated, per Director Alan Pritchard -- requiring secure structured data for remote communication and care. Austin Health partnered with Arden Street Labs to build its AI Labs and Operational Pipelines on Azure Databricks and Delta Lake, integrated with its EMR system and Azure Active Directory. Results included 30,000+ patients using COVID Care remotely, 300,000+ people screened via COVID Risk Management tools, 75% patient engagement on the appointment portal, and 85% of COVID Screen users receiving risk-reduction guidance. Arden Street Labs CTO Jeff Feldman said nearly a dozen solutions were all built on Azure Databricks as a core foundation.

Databricks is a unified data-and-AI lakehouse platform, used across pharma R&D for everything from early prototyping to production model governance via Unity Catalog.

This sits in the Design & Stress-Test stage of the AI use-case lifecycle: Named examples from the tools pharma teams use to scope, prototype and benchmark an AI use case before committing to build it — data-catalog, sandbox and evaluation platforms.
